AFECA Asia MICE Youth Challenge

We participated in the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Association (AFECA) “Asian MICE Youth Challenge” represented Hong Kong to compete with 18 different Asian countries. In this challenge, we were required to design a novel, unique, world-class meeting (M), incentive tour (I), convention (C), or exhibition (E) and plan how to organize it feasibly in our born place, Hong Kong while outstanding the characteristics of this city. We suggested an expo called the Filmtech Expo which aims to provide an integrated platform for knowledge and business exchange for the film industry and to promote Hong Kong as a filming destination for sci-fi movies. The results exceeded our expectation that apart from receiving the “Best PowerPoint Presentation” Award, we were also recognized as the Champion team, with 1000 US dollars as the cash prize.

The students participated in the Asian MICE Youth Challenge, which required them to design and plan a MICE event. They focused on creating a unique and innovative expo called the Filmtech expo.

Event Planning

The students showcased their skills in event planning through their participation in the MICE Youth Challenge. They were responsible for designing and organizing the Filmtech expo, considering aspects such as program scheduling, venue selection, guest speakers, and workshops.

Publicity

The students emphasized the importance of marketing and promotion strategies to attract participants and sponsors for their MICE event. They utilized social media engagement, website building, and video-marketing tactics to create buzz and generate interest in the Filmtech expo.

Cyberpunk

The students incorporated technological elements and the concept of cyberpunk into their MICE event idea, the Filmtech expo. They aimed to promote Hong Kong as a filming destination for sci-fi movies and used holograms to showcase 3D images and videos during the event.

Hospitality Industry

As students majoring in hotel management and tourism and events management, the students gained knowledge and expertise in the hospitality industry. They focused on providing outstanding services, managing properties, and understanding various aspects of the industry such as HR, technology, marketing, and customer relationship management (CRM).

The students mentioned the importance of managing their time effectively, especially when handling both the competition and their final year projects simultaneously. They learned to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.

Teamwork was highlighted as a crucial skill for success. The students emphasized the significance of effective communication, collaboration, and understanding different perspectives within a team.
