Hybrid Event APacCHRIE Conference 2020

 

Thirty Tourism and Events Students have organized a hybrid event - APacCHRIE2020 this year and assisted with Paper Review Coordination for the APacCHRIE2021 Singapore Conference. Jeremy Lam and Lyan Cheung had to prepare for conference marketing, designing programme, rehearsing staged events, managing paper reviews and presentation schedules, negotiating with vendors, handling registration and VIPs, managing logistics in order to achieve the overall event success with 180+ online and in-person attendees from all over the world.

  • The students have acquired skills and knowledge in marketing and promotion, as they were leaders in the marketing team for events, responsible for creating promotional materials and boosting registration numbers.
Hybrid Event Management
  • The students have gained experience in organizing and handling hybrid events, which combine both online and in-person elements. This knowledge is valuable, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where events have often required a mix of virtual and physical components.

Communication and Presentation Skills
  • The students gained experience in motivating their team members, showing care and empathy to boost team spirit and efficiency. They also improved their leadership skills in managing tasks and responsibilities.
  • The students honed their communication skills through email communication with different stakeholders and parties involved in the events, improving their ability to collaborate and work effectively with others.
Project Management and Teamwork
  • The students learned to act as a bridge of communication between upper management and subordinates, ensuring that information was delivered effectively and that tasks were executed smoothly.
Critical Thinking and Problem-solving
  • The students encountered challenges during the event planning process and learned to overcome them through creative thinking, developing contingency plans, and utilizing various techniques and computer skills to increase efficiency.
  • Given the tight schedules and heavy workloads, the students had to prioritize tasks, create clear schedules, and allocate jobs effectively to ensure smooth event execution.
Networking and Collaboration
  • The students emphasized the importance of networking with professionals in the events industry and industrial parties during events or mentorship programs to gain career inspiration and opportunities.
